Blister Prevention
About Blisters
Everyone knows what blisters are. They are painful, distracting and
sometimes crippling. Blisters are caused by local concentrated pressure on
the skin. This pressure is typically the result of rubbing which produces
heat. The heat separates the layers of skin and fluid develops between the
separated layers. This fluid-filled pocket is the blister.
Some
common areas where blisters develop include:
● between the arms and sides of the body
● between upper thighs
● groin
● over nipples
● around back of heels
● tops of toes
Blister Prevention
To prevent blisters, the goal is to reduce friction. Some helpful tips to
avoid or reduce friction include:
● wear proper fitting footwear, garments and equipment,
● wear proper fitting footwear, garments and equipment made from synthetic
blends, and
● ensure that all footwear, garments and equipment are dry before use.
Even
with these helpful tips, friction is still inevitable. That’s where Blister
